Mumps Vaccination Recommendations
- For children under 6 years of age – 2 doses of MMR recommended:
- One dose at 12-15 months of age (should not occur before the first birthday)
- Second dose at 4-6 years of age
- For children 7 to 18 years of age not previously vaccinated – 2 doses of MMR recommended:
- One dose given at any time
- Second dose given at least 4 weeks after the first dose
- For adults born in 1957 or later – 1 dose of MMR recommended
- For adults born in 1957 or later who are students in a postsecondary educational institution, work in a health care facility, or plan to travel internationally – 2 doses of MMR recommended
- One dose given at any time
- Second dose given at least 28 days after the first dose
- For adults born before 1957 – no doses of MMR as they are considered immune to mumps*
*If a person who was born before 1957 is a healthcare worker, it is recommended they be vaccinated with 2 doses of MMR vaccine
