Solid Waste Permits Section

The Bureau of Waste Management (BWM) routinely administers permits to ensure all solid and hazardous waste facilities are operated in a manner that protects human health and the environment. BWM conducts inspections, reporting and enforcements designed to identify and remedy compliance problems. Types of facilities where compliance is evaluated include landfills, hazardous or solid waste combustors, community composting, hazardous waste storage facilities, transfer stations, household hazardous waste facilities, and waste tire processors.

 

The Bureau of Waste Management Evaluates Safety Practices at Composting and Recycling Facilities

During August - November 2003 safety practices were assessed at 7 of 105 active composting facilities and 21 of 1,500 active recycling facilities in our state. A copy of the questionnaire used to assess safety practices at each type of facility and the summary of findings and recommendations are listed below:
