Solid Waste Tonnage Reporting
Christine Mennicke, Env. Scientist, Unit Chief
Regulations & Data Unit
The owner or operator of each permitted landfill and/or solid waste transfer station in Kansas is required to provide periodic reports to the Bureau of Waste Management regarding the tons of waste disposed in landfills and/or waste transferred through a transfer station.
In addition to periodic reporting, a tonnage fee must be paid for
each ton of solid waste disposed or transferred. Certain wastes
are exempt from the tonnage fee.
Tonnage Fee = $1.00/ton
In 2007, the Regulations and Data Unit began conducting tonnage audits at permitted landfill facilities. This has proved to be a successful tool in determining if waste records match tonnage reported to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
