Renewal of Radon Certification:

Initial certification and renewal certifications are valid for 24 months.    Renewal certification applications shall be submitted to KDHE at least 60 days prior to expiration of the certification. 

Application packages for renewal of radon certification should be mailed to:

KDHE will send out reminder notices approximately 90 days prior to the expiration of the radon certification.
Information to be submitted in renewal package:

  1. Completed and notarized Application for Certification or Renewal      (NOTE:  The same form is used for both new applications and renewal applications.  This form is available for download on the website.)
     
  2. Required fee (K.A.R. 28-35-602):
  3. Radon measurement technician……….$100.00
    Radon mitigation technician…………….$100.00
    Radon laboratory…………………………$250.00

  4. Training certificates which document that the required continuing education has been obtained (K.A.R. 28-35-605)
    • Radon measurement technician = 16 hrs within the 24-month certification period
    • Radon mitigation technician = 24 hrs within the 24-month certification period
    • Dual Radon Measurement and mitigation technician = 24 hrs within the 24-month certification period
      All continuing education training must be NRSB or NRPP approved or pre-approved by the Department.
       
  5. Radon measurement technicians and radon laboratories must include a copy of their Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) with the application renewal package (K.A.R. 28-35-600d).   The KDHE website includes an optional template which can be used to create a QAP, and a checklist of critical components to be included in a QAP.   NOTE:  If continuous radon monitors or continuous working level monitors are used as part of your business, copies of the calibration certificates showing annual calibrations are performed must be included as part of the QAP.
