Local Health Department - Overview
The Office of Local Health has six Public Health Nurse
Specialists based in KDHE district offices around the state. They serve
as direct field staff, coordinating activities between the state health
agency and local health departments. The focus of their work is the improvement
of the public health system and includes technical assistance to increase
local agency capacity to deliver public health services, develop infrastructure,
and coordinate public health into new networks for care. Current activities
include technical assistance and training for the Kansas Community Health
Assessment Process, assurance of workforce development activities, distance
learning coordination, environmental health standards, and public health
nursing.
