EMS Integration Committee
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Integration Committee
provides project guidance and policy direction regarding the integration
of EMS into rural health networks. This committee, made up of local
EMTs, EMS medical directors, nurses from CAHs and supporting hospitals,
representatives from the State Network Council, and hospital administrators,
engages in an ongoing collaborative process of planning and policy analysis
to identify key issues, recommend network-based interventions to address
these issues, and provide guidance on the process of distributing funding
to develop and implement these interventions.
In 2001, the committee produced a first year Report.
Issues that were addressed in the report included protocol development,
the relationship of EMS to networks and the formation of linkages, the
process for addressing EMS issues both within networks and among KRHOP
stakeholders, identifying and addressing state laws, regulations and policies
that create barriers to enhancing rural EMS systems, and ensuring that
the KRHOP activities complement ongoing EMS projects and policy efforts.
From this report came a series of initiatives that included:
-
Support for the development of a Strategic Plan for the
Kansas
Board of EMS
-
Funding for the Kansas EMS Community Planning Project
-
Project support for the first statewide Rural EMS Summit (January
23-24, 2002)
-
Development of EMS-related criteria for Network
Development Grants
