Kansas Department of Commerce Community Tax Credit Program

Each year, since 1994, the Kansas Community Service Tax Credit Program has given non-profit organizations a way to improve their ability to undertake major capital fund-raising drives for various projects. Tax credits are awarded each year to selected non-profit organizations to offer Kansas tax credits for contributions made to approved projects. Projects eligible for tax credit awards include community service, crime prevention, and health care.  Click here for more information.

Federal and Other Resources

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Grants and Loans

The USDA offers several community facilities loan and grant programs, primarily for community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population.  Loans and guarantees are available to public entities such as municipalities, counties, and special-purpose districts, as well as to non-profit corporations and tribal governments.

Funds may be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and public services.  This can include costs to acquire land needed for a facility, pay necessary professional fees, and purchase equipment required for its operation.

Click here to visit the USDA Rural Development website for more information on these programs.

To determine eligibility or learn more information you can also contact a USDA Rural Development office in Kansas.  Locations of these offices can be found online.  Click here to see a list of Kansas offices.

Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

HUD offers mortgage insurance programs for hospitals  under the Section 242 program and for nursing homes and assisted living facilities  under the Section 232 program.  These loans can be used for construction financing, refinancing, modernization, remodeling, expansion and equipment purchase.  HUD's FHA insurance enables clients to enhance their creditworthiness because their debt is backed by the United States Government. FHA-insured facilities usually obtain the lowest interest rates available to their segment of the market.
