World Water Monitoring Day
KDHE Involvement
Since 2003, the Watershed Management Section of the Kansas Department
of Health & Environment has coordinated World Water Monitoring Day
activities in Kansas. This coordination has included encouraging
watershed groups, citizens, businesses, and other interested
environmental organizations participate. The Watershed Management
Section also provided a free World Water Monitoring test kit to any
individual or organization that agreed to register and sample ten
different sites.
Within the United States, Kansas has been a leader in this event for
the past three years, and has been ranked in the top 5 for our water
monitoring participation. Kansas has been called "a wonderful example
of how goals of World Water Monitoring Day can ignite the
collaboration of local officials, volunteers and citizens and increase
citizen awareness." Our goals however continued to be to reach the
top, and be ranked #1 for sampling sites within the United States, and
to reach a sample site high of 1,000 registered sampling sites.
