Performance Evaluation of Wetlands in NE Kansas Constructed wetlands may offer a cost effective way to manage wastes collected at animal feeding operations. KSU has developed a project to test the effectiveness of constructed wetlands to remove nutrients from animal feeding operation wastes. The KSU project proposal outlines monitoring and analysis to: 1) quantify the level of treatment offered by the system in response to various waste loading rates, environmental conditions, and management practices; and 2) support development of a baseline model that will help refine the design of future systems to meet the demands of different environmental and hydrologic regions in Kansas.
