Restoration of Land Damaged by Oil and Gas Production |
The goal of this project is to demonstrate water quality protection
practices for land damaged by oil and gas production. Primary pollutants
are salts, residual petroleum hydrocarbons, sediment, and other inorganic
pollutants. Project objectives are: 1. Demonstrate and evaluate methods
for establishing permanent vegetative cover 2. Demonstrate and evaluate
methods of using organic materials, such as wood chips and compost to improve
organic matter and soil condition 3. Control erosion and reduce sedimentation
and pollution into surface and groundwater 4. Develop a brochure detailing
procedural guidelines to reclaim damaged oil and gas production sites. |

The goal of this project is to determine the impact of fencing livestock
from ponds and riparian areas. Project objectives include: 1. Implement
a water monitoring for two fenced ponds; 2. Implement a vegetative survey,
before and after fencing, to determine plant species for correlating to
water quality; 3. Disseminate results with a workshop, brochure and/or
news article. |

Program. This project will focus primarily on information and education
of local educators, local leaders, local students, and community members
on water-related issues. Issues being addressed are urban runoff, proper
disposal of household waste, appropriate lawn and garden care, water and
soil conservation, and nonpoint source pollution. |
