KDHE Seeks Comments on Champlin Tire Recycling, Inc. Waste Tire Monofill Expansion

TOPEKA, Kan. - The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) will hold a public comment period regarding the proposed expansion of a waste tire monofill operated by Champlin Tire Recycling, Inc. The monofill is currently operated under a permit from KDHE and is located at 1240 190th Street, southwest of Pittsburg.

Champlin Tire Recycling, Inc. has submitted an application to increase the waste tire monofill’s permitted disposal area from 8.5 acres to 13.7 acres and its final elevation by 20 feet, increasing the landfill’s disposal capacity from 324,000 cubic yards to 604,000 cubic yards.

A copy of the administrative record including the draft permit, permit application, engineering drawings and other information will be available for public review from Friday, August 9 through Monday, September 9 during normal business hours at the Pittsburg Public Library, 308 North Walnut Street, Pittsburg, KS 66762, at the KDHE Topeka office, 1000 SW Jackson, Suite 320, Topeka, KS 66612 and at the KDHE Southeast District Office, 1500 West 7th Street, Chanute, KS 66720.
