Annual WORKS! Conference in Manhattan, Kan., March 26-27

K-State Football Coach Bill Snyder to deliver keynote address

TOPEKA, Kan.—The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Bureau of Waste Management is scheduled to hold its annual recycling and composting conference in Manhattan, Kan., this Tuesday and Wednesday, March 26-27, at the Hilton Garden Inn Manhattan. The 2013 WORKS! conference will open Tuesday with Kansas State University football coach Bill Snyder as a keynote speaker. Afterward, KDHE Secretary Dr. Robert Moser will present the 2013 Kansas Solid Waste Hall of Fame Award.

Later Tuesday morning, Mike Strickland, the environmental, health and safety manager at Sherwin-Williams paint manufacturing facility in Andover, will deliver remarks about his 23 years experience in safety, industrial hygiene and environmental compliance in a variety of industries. In 2010, Strickland was recognized by J.J. Keller Online and Occupational, Health & Safety Magazine as their National Safety Professional of the Year for his efforts to significantly reduce injuries while at Collins Bus Corporation in South Hutchinson. Wednesday’s agenda includes a High Voltage Power Line Safety presentation by Westar Energy.
