Topeka –Jane Shirley, RN, BSN, MSE, has been hired as the Director of Local Health for the Bureau of Community Health Systems (BCHS), part of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).
Jane has served as the agency’s Coordinated School Health Program Manager in the Bureau of Health Promotion since October 2008, following 20 years of working for the Jefferson County Health Department.
“Jane is very well respected in the state’s public health community,” said Mindee Reece, BCHS Director. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this important position. Her varied public health and clinical nursing experience will serve Jane well in her new role.”
The Bureau of Community Health Systems includes the Public Health Preparedness, Special Populations Health, Local Health, Primary Care, Rural Health and Trauma Programs. These programs support the state’s communities to ensure that quality public health, preventive and primary care and other needed health care services are accessible for all Kansans. The bureau provides leadership for the agency in the health and medical response to all public health emergency situations, whether caused by natural events or acts of terrorism. Cooperation with public health system partners, community based primary care clinics, hospitals and a wide array of local, state and federal agencies and organizations is a core activity within the bureau.
