KDHE lifts Hog Creek stream advisory

Today the Kansas Department of Health and Environment rescinded the stream advisory for the previously identified sections of Hog Creek near Basehor. Analytical results from sampling of the stream on May 2 indicate that E. coli concentrations have returned to acceptable levels.

KDHE first issued the stream advisory on April 13 after the agency was informed of a fish kill within the portions of Hog Creek located between 158th Street and Kansas Avenue, and 171st Street and Parallel Road. KDHE tested samples on several occasions since April 13 and found elevated levels of E. coli at some sites in the creek. The latest tests indicated the E. coli levels have returned to acceptable levels.

The investigation report is still under review. KDHE will continue to work with potential sources within the watershed to improve management practices with a goal of preventing the need for future advisories.
