Kansans invited to DropIN and be part of the solution

Kansas DropINs, a collaborative dropout prevention effort led by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), will host the state’s Dropout Prevention Summit on October 20 in Wichita.

The goal of the Summit is to enable communities to expand on existing partnerships and build new relationships to ensure that all children in Kansas graduate from high school prepared for life, work and/or postsecondary education, instilled with a passion for lifelong learning.

Welcoming remarks will be provided by Lieutenant Governor Troy Findley; KDHE Secretary Roderick Bremby; and Dr. Gary Miller, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research at WSU.

Keynote speeches will be given by Martha Abele Mac Iver, Educational Researcher from the Center for Social Organization of Schools at Johns Hopkins University; DeVone Boggan, Director of Neighborhood Safety for the City of Richmond, CA and President of dbMentors; and Nick Lowery, President of the Nick Lowery Youth Foundation, Founding Director of the National Fund for Excellence in American Indian Education and 2009 Chiefs Hall of Fame kicker.

"The Kansas Dropout Prevention Summit will go beyond words to action steps to truly reach our youth and their parents, and engage them in the lifelong learning and growth that will spawn a new generation of leaders for Kansas,” says Kansas Dropout Prevention Champion Nick Lowery.

Highlights of the summit include: separate tracks for youth and adults, promising practices tablewalk, youth panel and regional conversations.
