Boil Water Advisory Issued for City of Buffalo, Wilson RWDs #10 and #11A

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a boil water advisory for water customers of Wilson County Rural Water Districts (RWD) #10 and #11A, and for customers of the City of Buffalo.

Buffalo is located in northern Wilson County in southeast Kansas.  Wilson RWD #10 extends south of Buffalo towards Altoona and east towards Neosho County.  Altoona and Neosho County are NOT affected by this advisory. Wilson RWD #11A serves about 100 people in the vicinity of Buffalo.

A chemical feed pump failed and inadequately treated water that was pumped to the distribution system.  The pump has been repaired.  The advisory will be lifted when the distribution system has been flushed with treated water and bacteriological samples indicate the water is safe for consumption.

Once water service is restored, customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:

The advisory will remain in effect until testing of water samples indicates no evidence of contamination and all other conditions which place the systems at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved. The city and/or KDHE will notify media when the boil water advisory has been rescinded.
