The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) will again be sponsoring the Capitol Midweek Farmers’ Market, to be held from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on every Wednesday, beginning May 21 until October 15. The market will be held along the south side of the Statehouse grounds in downtown Topeka.
The Wednesday market is supported by the Capital City Wellness Project, a new local initiative created to encourage an increase in physical activity and consumption of fruits and vegetables for downtown Topeka employees. The Capital City Wellness workgroup will be planning special events for the third week of every month throughout the market season.
Chef Angela Davis of Magic Meals in Topeka will be preparing a recipe using seasonal produce available at the market this Wednesday.
The Capital City Wellness Project is a collaborative effort with KDHE and area businesses, made possible with a grant from the Sunflower Foundation. The new initiative supports the Healthy Kansas (www.healthykansas.org) mission to eat healthy, increase activity, and reduce tobacco use among Kansans.
