MEDIA ADVISORY: Earth Day Collage by Stan Herd to be Dedicated in
Landon Arena on Earth Day, April 22

Lt. Governor Mark Parkinson, Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Secretary Roderick L. Bremby and Kansas environmental artist Stan Herd will officially dedicate an environmental awareness collage created by Herd at 10 a.m. in Landon Arena at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka on Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22. The public will be able to view the collage from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a time-lapse video of Herd creating the collage will be available on YouTube on Earth Day.

Herd will create the collage on the 80- by 110-foot Topeka Roadrunners ice rink at the arena, using 20,000 pieces of artwork submitted as entries in KDHE’s “Kansas – Don’t Spoil It” calendar contest. Kansas K-12 students submitted the artwork over several years. One entry from each grade has been chosen yearly for each month on the calendar.

Audio files featuring interviews with Bremby and Herd are available for media use at http://www.kdheks.gov/download/e-day/ . High-resolution photographs documenting the creation of the collage will be available on the Web site the afternoon of Monday, April 21.
