In April, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is hosting four workshops across the state titled, “Reclaiming Our Communities – The Kansas Brownfields Program.” The workshops will cover funding opportunities for brownfields redevelopment projects.
“Brownfields” are properties whose expansion, redevelopment or reuse may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or other contaminant. By investigating and cleaning up a brownfields site, communities can use local land again, producing jobs, increasing the tax base or adding other benefits such as creating a park or residential area.
