KDHE Issues Health Advisory for Portion of Switzler Creek near Burlingame

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a health advisory for Switzler Creek from Burlingame to where it enters Dragoon Creek.

KDHE advises against recreational activities involving bodily contact with the water in the specified area until further notice. Pet and livestock owners should take steps to prevent their animals from entering or drinking the water.

The City of Burlingame’s sewage pump station malfunctioned at about 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31 and has been bypassing raw sewage to Switzler Creek. The City has been hauling raw sewage to the treatment plant, but has not been able to keep up with the flow. The City has requested assistance to help repair the station.
