The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) will hold a public comment period from February 9 through March 16 regarding the proposed expansion of the Holcomb Common Facilities industrial landfill operated under a permit from KDHE.
An informational meeting and public hearing will be held in conjunction with the public comment period on Thursday, March 15 at Holcomb High School, 600 N. Jones, Holcomb. KDHE staff will be available during the informational meeting from 6 - 6:45 p.m. to answer questions regarding the landfill in an informal setting, followed by the public hearing at 7 p.m. Formal comments received during the hearing will be recorded by KDHE.
Holcomb Common Facilities LLC has submitted an application to expand the disposal area on the landfill from 115 to 188 acres. The landfill would receive industrial wastes from the existing Holcomb Station power generating unit and any additional units that may be constructed . Ownership of the landfill was transferred from Sunflower Electrical Cooperative to Holcomb Common Facilities on June 23, 2006. The Holcomb Common Facilities Landfill is located at 2440 Holcomb Lane , Holcomb, in Sections 20 and 29, Township 24 South, Range 33 West ( Finney County).
A copy of the administrative record including the draft permit, permit application, engineering drawings and other information will be available for public review from Friday, February 9 through Friday, March 16 during normal business hours at the following locations:

T he permit application is also available on the Internet at www.kdheks.gov/waste . Anyone may submit written statements on the proposed facility to Sam Sunderraj, KDHE Bureau of Waste Management, 1000 SW Jackson St., Topeka , KS 66612 -1366, via facsimile to 785-559-4253 or email to email@example.com by 5 p.m. on March 16. Comments postmarked by March 16 and received within one week thereafter will also be considered. After the public hearing and comment period, KDHE will respond to all comments in writing.
