2007 Kansas Don't Spoil It! "Special Edition" Wall Calendar Contest Winners

Thirteen students from across the state were recently selected as winners in the 2007 Kansas Don’t Spoil It! "Special Edition" Wall Calendar Contest. KDHE received thousands of entries for the fall 2006 contest in which students in grades kindergarten through high school were invited to submit original artwork that promotes recycling, reusing materials and reducing waste. KDHE selected one piece of artwork from each grade level.

This "Special Edition" is a year-at-a-glance calendar featuring all 13 winners on one poster-sized print. This calendar complements the traditional flip-type calendar that was published using student artwork submitted in an earlier contest held last spring. In the future, only one contest will be held each year in August and September to produce one or both calendar types. This will also allow student winners to see their artwork published in the same school year that they submit their contest entries. Winning artwork and photographs of the students for both Kansas Don’t Spoil It! Calendar contests can be viewed on KDHE’s website at http://www.kdheks.gov/kdsi/.

Copies of both calendar types have been printed and will be distributed in late November to Kansas schools, local governments and businesses. Through the years, KDHE has seen increased participation in the contest as teachers use it in the classroom as an opportunity to combine art expression with environmental awareness. All contest winners receive a savings bond, certificate, letter from the governor, and Kansas memorabilia.

The 2007 Kansas Don’t Spoil It! "Special Addition" Calendar Contest winners are:
