KDHE Offers Recycling Grants

Grant writing workshops scheduled for week of August 28

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Bureau of Waste Management is announcing Round #15 of the Competitive Plan Implementation Grant Program. Through these grants, the state promotes recycling and composting programs, new technologies, and education for source reduction, waste minimization and solid waste management programs. Local governments and private businesses are eligible to apply for funding to develop these energy and natural resource saving projects.

Funded projects have helped local governments by removing material from the waste stream to conserve landfill space and reduce the need for new solid waste facilities. Educational outreach is an integral part of this grant program. The grants will provide up to 75 percent of the total cost of a proposed project. Household hazardous waste and waste tire projects have separate grant opportunities posted on the KDHE Web site and are not included in this grant round.

Workshops to provide assistance on writing a grant application will be held during the week of August 28th. The workshops will last two hours and will be held in the following locations:

EMPORIA
Wednesday, August 30, 10 a.m. to noon
Flint Hills Technical College, Conference Room A
3301 W. 18th Street, Emporia
NESS CITY

Grant applications should be mailed to KDHE, Bureau of Waste Management, 1000 S.W. Jackson, Suite 320, Topeka, Kansas 66612-1366 and must be postmarked by Friday, October 13, 2006.
