KDHE issues $29,420 penalty to Industrial Chrome

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued an administrative penalty of $29,420 to Industrial Chrome, Inc., 834 N.E. Madison Street, Topeka, for violating laws and regulations governing hazardous waste in Kansas.

The following violations were noted during Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and KDHE inspections conducted January-July 2005:

  • Failure to properly identify and date hazardous waste containers
  • Failure to provide annual personnel training
  • Failure to conduct weekly inspections of hazardous waste storage boxes and containers
  • Storage of hazardous waste for more than 90 days without a permit
  • Failure to keep hazardous waste containers closed

Industrial Chrome was ordered to pay the penalty within 30 days of the July 24, 2006 order.
Industrial Chrome had the right to request a hearing with the Kansas Department of Administration within 15 days of the order.
