KDHE Presents Live Webcast on Pandemic Influenza and Avian FluTuesday, December 6, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) will present a live Webcast presentation on influenza, pandemic influenza, avian flu and the state's pandemic preparedness plan. The presentation has been presented in a dozen cities around the state in the past four weeks and will now be made available Tuesday, December 6 from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at www.kdheks.gov. State of Kansas employees may attend the presentation at Memorial Hall, at 120 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Seating is limited. KDHE Division of Health Director Dr. Howard Rodenberg and KDHE State Epidemiologist Dr. Gail Hansen, will discuss what to expect if avian and/or pandemic influenza appears in the U.S., ways to limit the spread of avian and/or pandemic influenza, and the Kansas Pandemic Influenza Preparedness and Response Plan. In addition, Rodenberg and Hansen will discuss guidelines on seeking medical care if one experiences influenza symptoms, the importance of vaccinations, products available for treatment (antivirals), and the differences between various types of influenza. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. Media are encouraged to attend the forum or view it on the KDHE Web site at www.kdheks.gov. Rodenberg and Hansen have completed influenza public presentations around the state in the past month including stops in Kansas City, Topeka, Salina, Hiawatha, Pittsburg, Chanute, Olathe, Wichita, Garden City, Dodge City, Hays, and Lawrence. |
