KDHE Lifts Boil Water Order for City of Hartford in Lyon County

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has lifted the boil water order for the City of Hartford Public Water Supply (PWS). Bacteriological sampling has been completed and there is no evidence of bacteria in the system; therefore, the boil water order is no longer needed.

City officials installed a chlorination system to address the chlorination problem that had resulted.

KDHE issued the order Oct. 14 to protect the public health because routine samples and follow up samples of the water supply were positive for coliform bacteria. Chlorine levels in the system were insufficient to kill the bacteria. The order remained in effect until testing of water samples indicated no evidence of contamination and all other conditions which placed the system at risk of contamination were deemed by KDHE officials to be adequately resolved.
