Kansas to Participate in Ninth Annual National Recycling CampaignMillions Expected to Celebrate America Recycles Day on November 15The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has partnered with America Recycles 2005 in its ninth annual campaign to encourage Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products. As part of the campaign, people throughout Kansas will celebrate America Recycles Day on November 15. "Recycling is a simple way in which all people of Kansas can protect our environment, preserve our resources and contribute to the economic well-being of Kansas," said KDHE Secretary Roderick Bremby. "It's so easy to recycle and the result is an improvement not just to our community, but to the entire state. It's exciting to see Kansans rallying around this important cause." America Recycles 2005 is one of the most comprehensive recycling awareness campaigns in the nation. Each year millions of people become better informed about the advantages of recycling and buying recycled products as a result of the group's efforts. Last year, thousands made on-line pledges to recycle and buy recycled products. "Recycling has been a priority in Kansas for many years, and we have met many of our goals regarding the reduction of solid waste," said Bill Bider, Director of KDHE's Bureau of Waste Management. "America Recycles Day gives us an opportunity to re-emphasize the full benefits of recycling. Hopefully those who commit to make the pledge will carry it forward the entire year as a result of the focus on November 15." To find more information on recycling and to make the pledge to recycle, Kansan's are encouraged to go to Americarecyclesday.org.This year's campaign features the theme, It All Comes Back To You. The slogan presents multiple messages: a recycled product or material can return to consumers as another new product; recycling comes back to consumers as an improved environment, preservation of resources and economic well-being of the country; and it is everyone's responsibility to recycle. America Recycles Day, Inc. is a nonprofit organization and is sponsored by the Ford Motor Company, Recycle America Reliance, American Beverage Association, Novelis Corporation and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. |
