Safe Kids Kansas Leads Local Activities on International

Walk to School Day October 5

WHO: Safe Kids Kansas, Local Safe Kids Coalitions, over 29 local communities and schools throughout the state.

WHAT: To celebrate International Walk to School Day, parents and children across the state will walk to school together to reinforce pedestrian safety. More than 6,000 children will participate.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 5, 2005 - Contact local coordinators for exact times (see attached list)

WHY:Pedestrian injury remains the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 5 to 14. Each year, more than 658 children ages 14 and under die nationwide from pedestrian-related injuries. Safe Kids activities on International Walk to School Day are designed to help educate children and families about the importance of pedestrian safety.
