KDHE Invites Public to Attend Educational Training Session on
Lead-Based Paint Hazards, in Salina, September 15, 7-8 p.m.
A free educational training session about the hazards of lead-based paint will be held this
month for contractors, carpenters, plumbers, painters, electricians, landlords, and the general public.
The training session will be held September 15, from 7-8 p.m., at the Salina-Saline County Health
Department, 125 West Elm, Conference Room A, in Salina.
The training will teach participants about lead and the law, specifically Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) and Kansas Department of Health (KDHE) and regulations. Participants will learn how to avoid
fines, lawsuits, and accidental poisoning associated with lead hazards.
"This training session is excellent for contractors and landlords who are responsible for or have been
hired to renovate and maintain properties. It is also helpful for the do-it-yourself individual who may
be working on a project and is concerned about safety," said Tom Langer, KDHE Lead Poisoning Prevention
Program. "It is extremely important to understand the hazards created when you disturb surfaces coated
with lead-based paint in homes. Being aware of the problem is the first step to prevent lead poisoning,
especially in young children."
There are four ways to register for the training:
Call: 1-866-UNLEADED
Fax: 785-296-5594
Email: Tlanger@kdhe.state.ks.us
Online: www.unleadedks.com
For special accommodations such as a translator or sign language interpreter, please contact
KDHE by September 12 at the above listed phone number or email address to request arrangements.
For additional information on the dangers of lead, go to www.unleadedks.com.
