Public Comments Solicited on Proposed New Industrial Landfill
at Heartland Cement Company in Independence
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) plans to issue a permit for a
proposed new landfill for disposal of cement kiln dust at the Heartland Cement Company facility
at 1765 Limestone Lane, Independence. KDHE will accept written comments on the proposed action
through Monday, Sept. 26.
A copy of the application and public notice has been posted on the KDHE Bureau of Waste
Management web site at www.kdheks.gov/waste/. Additionally, a copy of the permit application,
site plan, and associated documents will be available for public review from now through Monday,
Sept.26 during normal business hours in the KDHE office at the Curtis State Office Building, 1000
SW Jackson, Suite 320, in Topeka, and at the Montgomery County Clerk's Office in the County
Courthouse at 217 Myrtle in Independence.
