Sandbox Daycare and Learning Center in Wichita in
Violation of State Drinking Water and Child Care Regulations
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) issued an Administrative
Order and civil penalty in the amount of $10,072.00 to Sandbox Daycare
and Learning Center located at 11202 West 39 th Street South in Wichita,
Kansas for drinking water violations. In response to the drinking water
violations KDHE additionally issued a Notice of Intent to Suspend the
facility's Child Care License.
The Administrative Order alleges that the Sandbox Daycare and Learning
Center is in violation of the following Kansas statutes and drinking
water regulations:
- Failure to collect monthly bacteriological samples,
- Failure to provide KDHE with proof that the public was
notified of violations,
- Failure to provide certified personnel to operate the
public water supply system, and
- Failure to disinfect the public water supply system
in order to prevent bacteriological contamination.
The Notice of Intent to Suspend the Child Care License cites violations
of child care regulations:
- The building did not meet the legal requirements of
the community for water supply,
- The child care facility did not have plumbing, water
systems which conformed to all applicable state and local laws, and
- The child care facility was not operated with strict
regard to the health, comfort, safety, and social welfare of the residents.
The actions taken by KDHE provide a compliance schedule of required actions
for Sandbox Daycare and Learning Center. Sandbox Daycare Learning Center
has the opportunity to appeal the actions and request a hearing.
