KDHE Accepts Public Comment for Proposed Composting Facility in Harvey CountyThe Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is accepting public comment for a source-separated organic waste composting facility to be built in Harvey County on county property. Comments will be accepted through October 25, 2004. The proposed source-separated organic waste composting facility site is to be located in Newton at 3205 SW 24 th , Newton. The composting facility will be located on the same property as the Municipal Solid Waste transfer station. The composting pad will cover about four acres on the approximately 80-acre property. The facilities will be constructed and operated in conformance with state solid waste regulations. A copy of the application and public notice is available on the KDHE Bureau of Waste Management web site at In addition, a copy of the permit application, facility plan, and associated documents are available for public review through Monday October 25, 2004 during normal business hours at the KDHE office at 1000 SW Jackson, Suite 320, in Topeka, and at the City Clerk's office in Newton.
