KDHE Requests Public Comment Period for
Proposed Landfill near Parsons

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) will hold a public comment period and a public meeting regarding Scott Road Landfill, L.L.C.'s application to construct and operate a construction and demolition landfill and a yard waste composting facility.

The landfill would be located at 25000 Scott Road, northeast of Parsons. Only construction and demolition wastes, as defined by Kansas Statutes, would be allowed for disposal into the landfill. The total area of the construction and demolition landfill would be about 6 acres, with an estimated capacity of 80,000 cubic yards. With this capacity, the landfill would be expected to operate approximately 15 years. The yard waste composting facility will have a total area of about 3 acres and process only yard waste materials as defined by the Kansas solid waste regulations.

A copy of the administrative record including the draft permit, permit application, engineering drawings, and other information regarding this permit action will be available for public review from Thursday, November 7, 2002 through Tuesday, December 17, 2002 during normal business hours at the KDHE office in Chanute and at the Parsons Public Library at 311 South 17, Parsons. The public meeting is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at the Parsons Public Library.
