KDHE Requests Public Comment for Proposed Landfill in Pittsburg

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) will hold a public comment period regarding Vilela C&D Landfill, L.L.C.'s application to construct and operate a construction and demolition landfill.

The landfill would be located one quarter mile north of South 250th Street on East 540th Avenue, east of Pittsburg. Only construction and demolition waste materials, as defined by Kansas Statutes, would be allowed for disposal at this site. The total area of the disposal site would be about 22 acres, with an estimated capacity of 468,000 cubic yards. With this capacity, the landfill would be expected to operate over 25 years.

A copy of the administrative record which includes the draft permit, permit application, engineering drawings, and other information regarding this permit action is available for public review from Monday, October 28, 2002 through Wednesday, November 27, 2002 during normal business hours at KDHE, 1500 W. 7th, Chanute, and at the KDHE Surface Mining Section located at 4033 North Parkview Drive, Frontenac.
