KDHE Partnership To Bring Meth Awareness Program Statewide

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Meth Watch Program has become a partner in a new initiative called the Kansas Methamphetamine Prevention Project. The Project, led by Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services, includes the following partner agencies: the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Kansas Social Rehabilitation Services, the K-State Research and Extension, the Kansas National Guard, Safe Streets, and Prevention and Recovery Services of Topeka to provide Methamphetamine Awareness and Prevention Training throughout the state. The partners intend to duplicate the success of the Methamphetamine Awareness Project of Shawnees County in all 105 counties in the state during the next twelve months.

The regional workshops, open to the public, are designed to prepare attendees to develop a community team to address the meth issues in their local area. To assist communities in starting an anti-meth program, funding for statewide meth prevention efforts has become available. The workshop will provide details about how communities may apply for mini-grants to assist with local meth initiatives. Only agencies that send a representative to one of the workshops are eligible to apply.

Attendees will leave the workshops with tools and an action plan for implementing meth initiatives. Interested parties may register for the training at www.parstopeka.com or by calling (785) 266-8666 to request a registration form.
