Boil Water Advisory Issued for City of Reserve Customers

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a boil water advisory for customers of the city of Reserve. An earlier statement by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment indicated the advisory was for all customers of Brown County RWD #1, however the advisory applies only to the City of Reserve. Another statement will be issued when the boil advisory is lifted.

The city is under a boil water advisory due to the loss of water pressure, and water, which was caused by a sticking pressure-reducing valve at the city's connection to Brown County RWD #1 who supplies all of the city's water. The advisory will remain in effect until testing of samples indicate that water samples collected for coliform bacteria analysis are negative. Anyone served by the city of Reserve should observe the following precautions:

  1. Boil water vigorously for at least one minute prior to use. Use only boiled water for drinking, diluting fruit juices, and all other food preparation.
  2. Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic ice maker. Remake ice cubes with water that has been boiled.
  3. Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for a least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
  4. Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing or using backyard pools so water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.

The public water system and/or KDHE will notify area media when the advisory is rescinded.
