Plugging of vent wells designated as DDV #7 and DDV #58 has been approved by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), in concurrence with the Kansas Geological Survey and the City of Hutchinson. DDV #7 and DDV #58. DDV #7 is located in the area of 1st and Porter and DDV #58 is located in the area of 12th and Madison. The wells will be plugged by filling them with a cement mixture from the bottom of the well to the surface. These wells can now be plugged since these wells never detected gas and the necessary logging and testing data have been obtained. The plugging work is planned for the week of December 17, 2001, barring any weather delays or other unforseen delays.
The remaining vent wells are being evaluated to determine both what additional information needs to be obtained from them and the criteria for determining which of the remaining wells can be closed and when.
