P.C. Boards, Incorporated, 3100 S. Santa Fe, Chanute, has entered into a consent agreement with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment in which the company agreed to pay a $31,175 civil penalty for alleged violations of state hazardous waste regulations.
KDHE originally issued the fine in early August as a result of violations documented in an inspection of the P.C. Boards facility on March 28 and 29, 2001. The company appealed the fine, but then elected to sign the agreement, which allows P.C. Boards to pay the penalty in four installments. The first payment was made, due upon the agreement's signing by the company on November 7.
A Notice of Non-Compliance was issued to P.C. Boards immediately following the March inspection outlining several violations, including:
P.C. Boards was given 30 days to correct the problems and to notify KDHE in
writing of corrective actions taken to resolve the violations. P.C. Boards returned
to compliance on
May 17.
P.C. Boards has previously been penalized for not complying with hazardous waste regulations. P.C. Boards settled an earlier KDHE enforcement action from an inspection in August of 1995 by completing environmental projects costing the company more than $144,000.
