A senior official of Quality Water Analysis Laboratory, Inc. (QWAL), 2911 Rotary Terrace, Pittsburg, has signed a consent agreement to surrender the laboratory's state certification to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. This action signifies that QWAL will be prohibited from conducting analytical testing services for the purpose of environmental compliance.
The department initiated enforcement action against QWAL on September 28 based upon findings of an investigation by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The federal government's investigation of QWAL is ongoing.
QWAL has further agreed not to re-apply for certification for at least the next five years. The agreement was signed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and QWAL Laboratory President Terian Koester on November 9.
