City of Alden Fined $1,000 for Water Quality Violations

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued an administrative order assessing a $1,000 civil penalty against the City of Alden for discharging wastewater in violation of permit limits, and for failure to properly monitor and report to the department the quality of the discharge from the city's wastewater treatment facility.

The order also requires the city to provide KDHE with missing discharge monitoring reports for approximately the past year. The city is also required to implement a system at the plant to assure monitoring and reporting activities are carried out as required by the city's permit.

The department's order is subject to administrative appeal.
