WHAT: Special media event - Kids attending the Kansas State Fair will have the opportunity to prepare for real life situations by participant in a 9-1-1 simulation. Emergency Services Vehicles will be available to demonstrate their response in rescue situations. Participants will receive a magnet and matchbox Emergency Rescue Vehicle Poster. The Kansas SAFE KIDS Coalition will also distribute a brochure with tips for caregivers, tips for children, and tips for children and parents to follow together. During the special media event from 10:00 - 12:00, Jan Stegelman, Coordinator of the Kansas SAFE KIDS Coalition will be available to discuss the special promotion for 9-1-1 day. The simulators will be available for children during the entire fair.

WHY: To promote the safety of children and to teach Kansas kids how to use and not abuse the national 9-1-1 emergency response systems. Children will learn how to properly react during an emergency situation and how to use 9-1-1 appropriately. National 9-1-1 day also recognizes and honors real life heros who risk their lives every day in emergency rescue situations.
