The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) are jointly investigating a fish kill on Cheney Reservoir near Cheney, Kansas in Reno County.
Water quality tests conducted on the lake have found no unusual levels of pesticides or conventional pollutants. The cause of the fish kill may be naturally occurring bacterial or fungal infections. Live specimens and fish tissue samples have been sent to a national lab for analysis. Based on analytical results to date, KDHE believes the quality of the water remains fully supporting of recreational activities.
