Jayhawk Fine Chemicals has entered into a consent agreement with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment which will obligate the company to perform an environmental project which will likely cost about $99,500. The company entered the agreement in lieu of paying a $18,000 administrative penalty for violations of state hazardous waste regulations documented in a state inspection conducted on February 16 and 17, 2000.
The company has agreed to install a new Teflon-coated dry screw pump system within six months, which will eliminate between 700 and 800 gallons of hazardous waste oil generated each year.
