At the request of Seaboard Farms, Inc. the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has canceled the public notice for the draft wastewater permit for the proposed Seaboard Plant in Elwood, as well as the public hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13 in the gymnasium of the Elwood school at 12th and Vermont in Elwood.
The department is making every effort to provide direct notification of the hearing's cancellation to people who had submitted written comments.
When Seaboard Farms, Inc. notifies KDHE of their intent to re-institute the permit process, a draft water pollution control permit will be placed on public notice for a period of 30 days and a public hearing on the draft permit rescheduled. Any modifications of the proposed water pollution controls for the facility shall require KDHE review and approval prior to the draft permit being placed on public notice.
