Alterra Sterling House of Woodland Fined $10,000

Facility Was Prohibited from Admitting New Residents on Oct. 13

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued an order assessing a $10,000 civil penalty against Alterra Sterling House of Woodland, 1500 N. Terrace, Liberal, for violating state adult care home regulations.

KDHE staff inspected the nursing home facility beginning September 18 and ending October 4 and determined that the facility failed to meet standards for medication management. The department determined the violation resulted in, caused, or posed serious physical harm to a resident. State law authorizes KDHE to issue civil penalties following an inspection under those circumstances.

The department also issued a prohibition on new admissions to the facility on October 13 as a result of the inspection. The order is subject to appeal to the Secretary of Health and Environment.
