Coffee USA Fined $8,000 for Violating Air Quality Standards

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued an administrative order assessing an $8,000 civil penalty against Coffee USA Corporation, Building 243, Forbes Field, Topeka, for violating Kansas air quality regulations for visibility. Opacity tests were performed at the facility, by the Shawnee County Health Agency on August 22 and September 21, 2000 that revealed excessive visible emissions from a coffee roaster. The excessive visible emissions were above regulatory limitations.

The order also requires the company to submit a compliance plan which consists of a detailed proposal of the measures the facility will implement to assure that the coffee roaster operates in compliance with the regulations.

The company has until November 15 to appeal the department's order.
