Jayhawk Fine Chemicals Corporation Cited for Hazardous Waste Violations

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued an administrative order assessing a $22,400 civil penalty against Jayhawk Fine Chemicals Corporation, 8545 SE Jayhawk, Galena, for violating state hazardous waste regulations.

A Notice of Compliance/ Non-Compliance issued by KDHE staff during a February 17, 2000 inspection gave the company 45 days to return to compliance. Jayhawk Chemicals did not return to compliance until August 11.

The violations documented in the inspection included, but were not limited to:


Jayhawk filed for an administrative appeal on September 23. No final appeal date has been set.
