KDHE Fines Ashland Feeders $20,000

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued an administrative order assessing a $20,000 civil penalty against the Ashland Feeders cattle facility in Clark County.

Waste water from one of the facility's livestock lagoons overflowed into Granger Creek on March 23. An inspection revealed that the lagoons were being maintained with inadequate freeboard in violation of the facility's Agriculture and Related Wastes Control Permit.

The order also requires Ashland to take additional steps to ensure that it remains in compliance with its permit.

Ashland has until October 23 to appeal the department's order.
