Project "Clean Sweep" Helps Farmers and Ranchers Dispose of Pesticides
Businesses May Also Participate for a Fee
This month Project "Clean Sweep," conducted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), will help farmers and ranchers to properly dispose of unwanted, unused, canceled, or obsolete pesticides, with no questions asked, and at no cost. Businesses may also participate this year, but will be charged a disposal fee of $1.15 per pound.
"Clean Sweep" will be accepting unwanted pesticides at the Shawnee County Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 131 NE 46th St., Topeka, on Monday, October 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; at the Tongonoxie Fairgrounds, Tuesday, October 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and in Horton at the Brown County Road Dept., 1741 Central, Wednesday, October 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"It's especially important for farmers and ranchers to search their barns, sheds and chemical storage areas for canceled products," says Jim Rudeen of KDHE.
