KDHE Encourages Kansas State Fair Visitors to Hunt for Recyclables

Visitors to the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson this year can have fun, win prizes and learn about the many ways recycled materials are used in new consumer products. The Great Hunt for Recyclables will take participants to all corners of the state fairgrounds as they search for recycled products and complete their contest entry forms.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is highlighting the Great Hunt for Recyclables as part of Kansas Don't Spoil It! activities at the Kansas State Fair beginning Friday, September 11, 1998. The Great Hunt will pay off Friday, September 18, when KDHE Secretary Gary R. Mitchell draws the prize winners from correct entry forms. Friday the 18th is designated as Kansas Don't Spoil It! day at the fair.

The Grand Prize is a family-sized Millennium Wood "plastic wood" picnic table manufactured from recycled plastic. Two Millennium Wood garden benches will be awarded as second prizes, and four Mid Continent Quick Brick recycled rubber mats will be awarded as third prizes. All contest participants who turn in an entry form will receive a Kansas Don't Spoil It! water bottle, while supplies last. Participants with correct entries may choose to upgrade from the water bottle to Kansas Don't Spoil It! sunglasses, while supplies last.

Entry forms may be picked up and turned in at the KDHE/Kansas Don't Spoil It! booth #128 in the Industrial Building on the State Fairgrounds. All correct entries turned in by 12 noon on Friday, September 18, 1998 will be eligible for the prize drawing. Winners will be drawn and announced in the Farm Bureau Arena at 1:00 p. m. during the Recycling and Composting WORKS Show. Contestants do not need to be present to win.

The contest will give State Fair visitors a chance to see some of the innovative and quality products on the market that are manufactured from recycled materials. Products in the hunt include picnic tables, benches, rubber mats, carpeting, steel, aluminum, roof replacements, insulation, paper products and wood mulch. Complete details, entry forms and additional information will be available at the KDHE/Kansas Don't Spoil It! booth # 128 in the Industrial Building beginning Friday, September 11, 1998.
